Beijing. Chinese scientists have set a new world record by reaching a temperature of 120 million degrees Celsius during tests on a fusion reactor, also known as the 'artificial sun'.
This device is called the artificial sun because it has the potential for nuclear-like nuclear activity. It is said to help produce clean energy, not just sunlight.
This achievement was announced by Gong Xianju, a researcher at the Institute of Plasma Physics. The device, called 'Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak', is said to have been able to generate temperatures of 120 million degrees Celsius for 120 seconds and 160 million degrees Celsius for 20 seconds.
The artificial sun, a nuclear reactor designed independently by Chinese scientists, developed the capability to operate at temperatures of up to 100 million degrees in November 2018. That is seven times the temperature of the sun.
